Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which continues its activities for the elderly with social activities, reconnected the residents of the nursing home to life with the tailoring course in Gürçeşme Zübeyde Hanım Nursing Home. Buca Public Education Center teachers give sewing lessons two days a week, “older but young at heart” students stated that they discovered the beauties of life once again with these activities and that they enjoyed spending their “second spring” with different occupations.
Aynur Toğmuş, 75, one of the nursing home residents, said that she is happy to spend her time in the course and feels young as long as she produces. 76-year-old Emine Cihangir, who stated that she could not find the opportunity to devote time to herself due to the social duties and roles she assumed during a significant part of her youth, expressed her satisfaction by saying, “I just started living. This is life.” Areti Kemlican said, “We create new things by cutting and reassembling pieces of old unused items and clothes. We are very happy to be together and benefit from these opportunities.”
