City Award winner ‘The Adult Nursery’ which was supported by Antalya Konyaaltı Municipality and was brought to life within a 5 million budget project, has been opening the doors of a second home to the elderlies over the age of 60 by giving service since 2017.
It is thought that this kind of project emerged because of working families not being able to spare time to their parents in daytime and elderlies having trouble in spending time alone throughout the day. This nursery that attracts attention with different activities during the day enables the adults with the access to many social opportunities that they cannot reach as individuals.
‘The Adult Nursery’ serving the adults with its 200-seat multipurpose hall, gym, library, cinema, hairdresser service and several workplaces has attracted the great attention of people of Antalya. Adults discover different ways of connecting to life in this institution where people socialize and spend good time.
The institution that is responsible for adults’ every kind of transportation, food and health services also ensures their comfort with resting rooms.
In the institution sport and healthy life activities are given great importance. Seminars are given by experts in the field on subjects such as nutrition and healthy life, psychological and physical support therapies, yoga and daily exercises are performed to protect physical and cognitive performance inside the institution.
During the day, different handicraft workshops such as stone painting, origami, ceramics and mandala works are carried out at the institution. In addition to these, there is a computer room for adults to use a computer at a basic level and a music room not to be deficient in music and musical activities. In the institution which also has foreign language classrooms, adults who wish can receive foreign language education.
In the institution which started with the slogan of ‘taking good care of veterans of life’ birthdays and special days are celebrated without skipping any. These celebrations are held with mini concerts and entertaining activities.
In the institution there are also play rooms like the ones in kindergartens. Play therapies carried out by play therapists and activities carried out in playgrounds also draw attention. This institution which knows the importance of play for cognitive and physical health at every age, especially gives place to plays supporting cognitive activities.
